Plant Operator-Technician

Are you a dedicated, safety-conscious, detailed-oriented and collaborative individual to join our team as a Plant Operator-Technician? This role provides an opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, focusing on plant operations, equipment maintenance, customer service and mentorship of junior and seasonal staff.  We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, values teamwork, and is committed to maintaining a safe and organized workplace.

What You’ll Do:

  • Shipping & Receiving (Quality Control, Warehousing)
    • Ensure all materials are received in good condition with minimal handling and shrinkage.
    • Verify shipment counts before signing paperwork and ensure accurate documentation.
    • Maintain proper records and submit paperwork to the office promptly.
  • Equipment Operations (Blender, Loader)
    • Operate and maintain blending and loading equipment safely and efficiently.
    • Ensure complete understanding of operational and safety procedures for all equipment.
  • Production (Bags, Bulk Totes)
    • Package products in an orderly and timely manner while adhering to job procedures.
    • Ensure finished products are presentable, properly labeled, and meet quality standards.
  • Maintenance (Equipment, Building & Plant Rolling Stock)
    • Conduct routine maintenance to extend the lifespan of equipment and capital assets.
    • Maintain a preventive maintenance program and keep accurate records.
    • Minimize downtime, especially during peak seasons.
  • Housekeeping
    • Maintain a clean and organized plant and yard.
    • Ensure equipment, materials, and inventory are stored properly.
    • Prevent inventory loss by minimizing product damage and waste.
  • Health & Safety
    • Follow all safety protocols and procedures.
    • Maintain required safety training and certifications.
    • Report incidents, accidents, or near misses to the supervisor.
    • Complete daily forklift inspections before operation.
    • Ensure compliance with company smoking policies.
  • Customer Service
    • Foster a positive customer experience by being friendly and courteous.
    • Ensure orders are fulfilled promptly and efficiently.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration
    • Assist with training and mentoring new and seasonal employees.
    • Ability to lead assigned tasks to completion with an internal motivation to ensure contributions meet expectations.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
    • Support other plant and warehouse operations as needed.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a plant, warehouse, or agricultural setting is an asset.
  • Forklift and equipment operation experience preferred (training provided if required).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and following established procedures.
  • Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons.

Sales Agronomist

Sales Agronomist

Holmes Agro is looking to hire two Sales Agronomists: one for the Stayner location and another for the Orangeville location.

We are seeking individuals who are self-motivated, outgoing, and sales-oriented with an agriculture background and expertise and ability to market our products and services. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about building relationships with our customers and growers to better understand their business and needs. Through this partnership, our Sales Agronomists will leverage their leadership and persuasion skills to provide value added solutions and drive growth.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist Ontario growers improve their productivity and crop outputs
  • Travel daily within your assigned region in peak seasons to meet current and prospective customers, generating leads by conducting cold calls and follow up visits, to generate and optimize sales opportunities
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with growers by providing on-farm consultations, developing crop plans and providing agronomic advice and actions to improve crop protection
  • Anticipate and address customers changing needs throughout the seasons and provide recommendations based on routine crop scouting, soil, tissue sampling, and analyzing customer data housed within our proprietary MyFarm system
  • Be an expert in our full line of crop inputs, including crop protection products, seeds and custom fertilizers
  • Ensure exceptional customer experiences by collaborating with internal teams to ensure seamless deliveries to growers by working to support fertilizer, seed and crop protection purchases
  • Support customers stewardship efforts such as 4R’s, precision agriculture, pest assessments & record keeping
  • Accurately record all visit and call details in our MyFarm and order systems
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless deliveries to our growers to ensure exceptional customer experiences
  • Provide back-up support for internal operational activities on an as-needed basis

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Must have a passion for agriculture and helping growers feed Canadians
  • Strong knowledge of crop inputs, seed and crop protections
  • 5-10 years of inside or outside sales experience, outside sales experience preferred
  • Graduate from a Canadian agriculture college or university program preferred, but not required
  • Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) designation preferred or willingness to work towards it
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to allow you to provide a positive experience and work collaboratively with customers, suppliers and internal team
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ownership/entrepreneurial mind set to help grow and shape our business
  • Computer navigation skills and ability to competently work with Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Willingness to work seasonably long hours in Spring and Fall during peak growing seasons
