HOLMES AGRO SEED
Holmes Agro is pleased to partner with a diverse portfolio of seed companies to bring you the ideal product for every acre of your operation.

Farming is an industry where margins are shaped long before a planter rolls into the field. Before one seed is in the ground most of the key financial decisions for the next season are already made, fertilizer, seed, crop protection, and operational planning. The difference between profitable or unprofitable year can come down to how early and strategically those decisions were made.
Seed is one of the highest upfront investments in any corn or soybean program. It’s also one of the few inputs where timing alone, without sacrificing quality or performance, can significantly reduce cost. That’s exactly where early booking and early payment programs come in.
At Holmes Agro, our seed program for Ontario farms is designed to do more than move product early. It’s built to help growers reduce cost per-acre, secure genetics, and plan with confidence instead of reacting under spring pressure.

For the 2026 growing season, our seed program covers corn and soybeans through the following brands: Pride, NK, Silverline, and Enogen.
Growers who order their seed by December 5, 2025 qualify for a 7% early order discount. Those who complete payment by December 10, 2025 receive an additional 7% early payment discount. These two incentives stack together, creating meaningful savings for growers who plan.
Volume discounts are also available through your Holmes Agro agronomist and can further improve overall program value.

Many growers assume the savings are minor. They’re not. Because these discounts stack, the final impact is greater than it first appears.
What It Really Saves You: For example,
If your seed cost is $168 per acre on a 100-acre field:

That’s savings simply from timing your decision properly, without reducing acres, changing genetics, or compromising yield potential. On larger operations, those numbers grow quickly. On smaller farms, even a few thousand dollars saved on seed can make a major difference in final profitability.

With increasing input costs, tighter margins, and unpredictable growing seasons, the controllable factors matter more than ever. Seed is one of the few places where growers can still gain a real financial advantage just by moving earlier and planning smarter.
This article only scratches the surface. Every farm’s operation, acreage, hybrid selection, and financial structure is unique. The best way to understand what this program looks like for your situation is to talk directly with a Holmes Agro agronomist.

We recognize that not every operation wants to commit large amounts of capital early in the winter, and for many growers, prepaying seed simply isn’t realistic from a cash flow standpoint.
To support those situations, Holmes Agro works with financing partners such as FCC and Scotiabank to provide flexible seed financing options. Rates for both programs are Prime + 2.95% (based on credit approval and program terms). This allows growers to access early booking and early pay incentives without tying up operating cash. For example, if a grower saves 13.5% through stacked early discounts on a seed order. The net financial advantage still strongly favours early participation while preserving in-season liquidity.

On that same acre of crop, does it make sense to finance the early pay? Early booking alone saves your operation $11.76/acre and early paying saves $10.94. If you sign up through FCC and pay 7.45% from December to May, that costs you about $5.41. Still leaving you a net savings of $5.53/acre from early pay.

When growers book through Holmes Agro, they’re not just reserving bags of seed. They’re building a plan. Our agronomy team works with growers to align hybrids and varieties with soil types, yield goals, fertility programs, and regional performance data across Ontario. This support extends from winter planning right through planting and into the growing season.
Booking early allows you to secure desired hybrids and varieties before spring demand peaks, avoid product substitutions, and align seed choices with your agronomic plan instead of scrambling at the last minute. Early planning also improves operational efficiency. Decisions made in December reduce workload pressure in spring, when time, weather, and logistics become much tighter. That mental and logistical clarity has real value, even if it doesn’t show directly on a spreadsheet.
